Changamsha Band – Maisha
“Maisha,” is a song from the Changamsha Band that tells of the day to day struggles people face in Tanzania. They use their unique storytelling methods to discuss the sacrifices made by parents as they raise children to create better futures for them. A parent works as hard as possible from season to season but finds it hard to be financially successful.

In hopes the sacrifice of education leads to being taken care of later in life, a parent works to provide their children with an education. The parent loves their children, but the result of their sacrifices has led to a geographical divide between the parent’s home and those of their children. For example, the parent has a home with a grass roof while the child has a home with a concrete roof. “Maisha” is a reminder to all of us that we should have gratitude, as there are responsibilities that we have in raising the next generations, and we should consider that some things change over generations.
